چکیده

2. Vehicles can be designed to provide crash protection to the occu little or no penalty to the weight and cost of the vehicle. 3. Vehicle crashworthiness can be improved by providing the principles to designers and by emphasizing the importance of this design responsibility. Decisions and design choices can then be · and in cases where two or more comparable choices are possible, the in favor of improved crashworthiness can be made. 4. Overall vehicle structural crashworthiness requires design loads with an objective of maintaining a protective envelope occupant and reducing the crash loads transmitted to him by deformation of surrounding structure. 5. Seating and restraint systems should be designed to provide restraint in all loading directions and to minimize decelerative lo occupant. 6. Seating and restraint systems should have the strength req remain in place until the surrounding structure collapses. 7. Some analytical procedures are available and some are being which can be used to evaluate and optimize structures and occupant survival. Additional tools are needed to enable overall syst be optimized for both structural crashworthiness and mission 8. Creative innovation is needed to develop structural design vV.lH~IVl! and concepts that can provide the stiffness and strength needed to . primary design function, but that will efficiently and progressively with fracture during crash loading.

Local and Global Approaches to Fracture Mechanics Using Isogeometric Analysis Method

The present research investigates the implementations of different computational geometry technologies in isogeometric analysis framework for computational fracture mechanics. NURBS and T-splines are two different computational geometry technologies which are studied in this work. Among the features of B-spline basis functions, the possibility of enhancing a B-spline basis with discontinuities ...

NURBS-Based Isogeometric Analysis Method Application to Mixed-Mode Computational Fracture Mechanics

An interaction integral method for evaluating mixed-mode stress intensity factors (SIFs) for two dimensional crack problems using NURBS-based isogeometric analysis method is investigated. The interaction integral method is based on the path independent J-integral. By introducing a known auxiliary field solution, the mixed-mode SIFs are calculated simultaneously. Among features of B-spline basis...

Modelling of Crack Growth Using a New Fracture Criteria Based Peridynamics

Peridynamics (PD) is a nonlocal continuum theory based on integro-differential equations without spatial derivatives. The elongation fracture criterion is implicitly incorporated in the PD theory, and fracture is a natural outcome of the simulation. On the other hand, a new fracture criterion based on the crack opening displacement combined with peridynamic (PD-COD) is proposed. When the relati...

Fracture mechanics-based life prediction of a riveted lap joint

In this paper, three-dimensional modeling of the fatigue crack growth profiles was performed in a simple riveted lap joint. Simulation results showed that mode I was dominated on the one side of the plates and the crack straightly grew on this side, while the other side of the plates was in a mixed-mode condition and the crack propagation path was not straight on this side. Afterward, the fract...

A novel modification of decouple scaled boundary finite element method in fracture mechanics problems

In fracture mechanics and failure analysis, cracked media energy and consequently stress intensity factors (SIFs) play a crucial and significant role. Based on linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM), the SIFs and energy of cracked media may be estimated. This study presents the novel modification of decoupled scaled boundary finite element method (DSBFEM) to model cracked media. In this metho...

Computational Fracture Mechanics

The classical, overall objective of fracture mechanics is the determination of the rate of change of the shape of an existing crack. Will it propagate under given loading and environmental conditions, and, if it does propagate, at what rate and into what configuration will it do so? The corresponding computational requirement has been to obtain the fields – displacement, strain, stress, and ene...
